About Us

'Cefndeuddwr' is quite an extraordinary place and moving here nearly 30 years ago saw the start of a 'life project' . The farm sits on the top of a ridge between two river valleys so benefits from wonderful panoramic views. The traditional stone and slate buildings are of historical importance and were all built between the 1500's and 1700's. The farm had been neglected for many years so its taken a lot of time and effort to get to this point - and there's still plenty more to do!

Despite the scale of the project there has always been something uplifting about being here. The place has a remote, wild feel to it and the views are stunning. The area is rich in wildlife and living in the heart of the forest provides us with acres of space beyond our boundary to explore.

What brought us to Cefndeuddwr was a desire to escape to somewhere quiet and secluded where we could live in a low impact way by growing a few vegetables and keeping a few animals. We both appreciate wild places and nature, and enjoy the ever changing landscape that surrounds us.

The farm is a working small holding with 30 acres of flower rich meadows and oak woodland. We don't have any close neighbours and looking out from the elevated position of the farm you can't see any other signs of habitation. Look north west to the ridge of the northern Rhinog or south to the most uninterrupted view of the Cader Idris range that you are likely to see.

The farm is also home to the pottery workshop where Tyr makes a variety of functional ware and creative pieces.

If you appreciate nature and wild places, love walking or riding and want to escape for a while to somewhere peaceful and tranquil, then we think you will enjoy your stay here.

Most visitors comment on the peace and tranquility here and the freedom of the open space. Many hardly ever use their cars once they've arrived, preferring to explore the area on foot or by bike. Others are content simply to unwind at the cottage, enjoy a good book or have a camp fire in the evening. It's a great place for children to visit with places to explore and adventures to be made.
